This week, a Toronto high school student made an unusual birthday wish, and the next day she asked her female student to make a crop top at school.
But Alexi Halket doesn\'t just want her birthday wish to come true: 18year-
A senior at the Etobicoke College of Art wants to issue a literal fashion statement protesting the school\'s dress code.
On Monday, she was reprimanded by the vice president for wearing a shirt, saying \"it\'s too much like a sports bra,\" halket told supporters via Facebook, the school dress code has contributed to the \"sexiness of women\'s bodies \".
\"We want to be united against people letting women cover their bodies because it\'s offensive and inappropriate,\" Halket said after the protest, known as crotoppday, succeeded.
\"We just want to love our bodies and appreciate how they look, even if there is a dress code.
Why would you send a woman home because men can\'t control themselves when they see the girl\'s costume?

School principal Rob McKinnon said in a statement on Tuesday that he had spoken to more than 200 students and encouraged everyone to continue the discussion.

-It can be tricky to find this line where we want to encourage freedom of thought and expression, \"McKinnon wrote.
\"We want everyone to feel comfortable in this space.
We are a community of learners and this discussion helps us to collectively understand each other\'s views and experiences.
Huffington Post made further contact with McKinnon, but he did not get in touch immediately.

On May 26, 2015, as Buzzfeed pointed out, the school\'s dress policy was only to warn against \"too exposed\" clothing.
Shari Schwartz, spokeswoman for the Toronto Regional School Board-
Maltz explained to the Canadian city news that in fact there is no explicit code of dress for each school in the area.
\"There is a general dress code that mainly involves proper dress,\" Schartz said . \"Maltz said.
\"It\'s vague, but vague in purpose: every school and school community decides what is right for them.
\"It\'s not just the president\'s decision,\" Schwartz-Maltz added.
\"It\'s always the decision of the whole school community.

Fitting pants such as tight jeans and leggings are thought to distract the boys.
Earlier this spring, a Michigan teenager was fired from his ball for wearing a backless dress.
